Introducing Mirixa Corporation

Community MTM Services, Inc., leader in Medication Therapy Management technology, announces new name, expanded vision, and clinical technologies that power patient care at the point of pharmacy

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (June 5, 2007) – Community MTM Services, Inc. today unveiled its new corporate name, Mirixa, and simultaneously announced the availability of an expanded array of clinical information technologies that power Medication Therapy Management (MTM) and consumer health services through its network of over 40,000 pharmacies nationwide.

“Healthcare faces a growing crisis in cost and quality – and proactive pharmacy-based care represents a powerful lever in countering these trends,” said Don Hackett, chief executive officer of Mirixa. “We are driven by a compelling, ambitious, yet simple aim: to deliver the technologies that unlock the power of pharmacy to improve patient care. Mirixa technologies are in use today by thousands of pharmacies speeding the flow of critical information among pharmacists, patients and physicians. Our technologies empower the delivery of next generation MTM services, helping patients better manage their medications” added Hackett.

Mirixa’s expanded portfolio of clinical technologies for pharmacy enables targeted patient care programs that identify and address care gaps, boosts adherence with treatment plans, improves patient safety, empowers self-care, promotes cost-effective treatments, and informs patients of clinical trial opportunities.

A growing body of evidence finds that community-based pharmacy care works. The Asheville Project, which measured long-term clinical and economic outcomes among diabetes patients, found meaningful improvements in clinical measures and patient adherence. This pharmacy-based project also achieved overall declines in the total cost of care, including direct medical cost reductions ranging from $1,200 to $1,872 per patient per year.[1]

Mirixa, through its Internet-based clinical technology and national network of pharmacies, enables its health plan, employer, and pharmaceutical clients to expand the reach and breadth of their direct to patient services. “The efficiencies in our low-cost operating model offer superior business and clinical results for our clients. Most importantly, we enable our pharmacy partners to accelerate their service-based revenues, creating measurable economic value across the network” said Hackett.

“Medications are a critical component in the delivery of comprehensive, quality health care services,” said Dr. Mark McClellan former commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and former administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). “We know that pharmacies can be a valuable resource for achieving significant and systematic improvements in appropriate and effective use of medications. Mirixa information technology solutions support pharmacists as trusted experts to work with patients and their physicians to improve medication related-care,” added Dr. McClellan.

McClellan headed CMS during the historic launch of Medicare Part D, which mandates that Part D insurers provide Medication Therapy Management services to patients meeting certain qualifying criteria. Medicare Part D legislation specifies pharmacists as one of several approved channels for delivery of MTM services.

On the heels of the Medicare Part D launch in January 2006, Mirixa (then Community MTM Services, Inc.) introduced innovative web-based services enabling pharmacists to efficiently deliver targeted Medication Therapy Management services. The company achieved significant momentum during the second half of 2006 when pharmacists handled over 40,000 cases for qualifying members of MemberHealth’s CCRx Part D plans.

National surveys consistently find that consumers consider pharmacists trusted advisors when it comes to medication information. According to findings published in 2006 by ManhattanResearch, U.S. adults with a question about their medications were more likely to consult their pharmacists than any other health professional or the Internet, and were more likely to ask a pharmacist than go to a medication product website. Mirixa is the first technology services provider to tap the power of this trusted healthcare relationship to deliver programs on a national scale across a wide network of chain and independent pharmacies.
